SVA Organ Donation Registry Sign-Up Drive in Support of the Yes I Will Wisconsin Program Gets Results

Madison, WI, July 26, 2010 – Recently, SVA organized and hosted an organ, eye and tissue donor sign-up drive in support of the new online Wisconsin Donor Registry and in support of the 2010 National Kidney Foundation U.S. Transplant Games® held in Madison later this week.

The Yes I Will Wisconsin Program reported sign-ups were more than 2.5 times higher on the date of the SVA sign-up drive.   “We had 187 sign-ups on that day,” confirmed Trey Schwab, Outreach Coordinator UW Health OPO. “On an average day when we don’t have an event, we typically see between 65 and 75 people sign up, so this was quite an impressive jump.”

“The response to the SVA Donor Sign-up drive was profound,” stated Jack Cotton, SVA Chief Executive Officer.  “We were happy to provide the opportunity to increase awareness and at the same time help the Yes I Will Wisconsin Program with an outpouring of support with new donor sign-ups.”

The SVA Donor Sign-Up drive was held on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the corporate headquarters in Madison.  In addition to its two Madison locations, the SVA Wisconsin-based offices in Milwaukee and the Fox Cities also participated, inviting employees and clients, as well as their families and friends, to attend and register as donors.

During the SVA Donor Sign-Up Drive, representatives from Yes I Will Wisconsin program led a presentation highlighting the importance and impact of organ, eye and tissue donation.  Also on-hand, volunteers assisted attendees signing up to be a donor.

About the Yes I Will Wisconsin Program
In April, Wisconsin launched its new web-based online Donor Registry, making it easier for individuals to legally authorize their organ, tissue and eye donation.  The Registry ensures your decision to be a donor is honored and saves your family from having to make that decision during a time of grief.  People who have indicated their decision on their driver’s license or state I.D. with an orange “donor dot” need to be aware that this indication is not a legal record and they should still sign up online.  The Registry is confidential, protected, private and easy to use. You may add or remove your name at any time online at YesIWillWisconsin.com.

About the U.S. Transplant Games
The 2010 National Kidney Foundation U.S. Transplant Games is an Olympic-style event that celebrates the success of transplantation, honors those that gave the gift of life and calls attention to the need for more donors. U.S. Transplant Games events are scheduled from July 30-August 4, in Madison.

SVA is a proud sponsor of the Volunteers helping to make the games a reality.  In addition to being a Volunteer Sponsor, a team of SVA employees will be donating their time during the Games.
