The Story
After 69 years with no direct sales force and virtually no marketing, Carmex was losing ground in a rapidly growing category. In the past, Carmex lip balm had been sold years ago via handshake deals with buyers for major retail outlets.
Carma Labs’ vision was to create a model for sustained profitable growth.
“We’re an iconic symbol that America recognizes, but to continue to grow and gain market share, we realized almost immediately the need to leverage technology to help us achieve this goal,” said Mike Pietsch, sales manager.
Their existing Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) solution was a combination of disparate pieces of software, none of which imported transactions in or out of Microsoft Dynamics GP. This meant that every order turned into a single invoice had to be re-keyed at an average of 5 minutes each. Over 10,000 invoices were processed in a single year.
Carma Laboratories chose SVA Consulting to help them create efficiencies and streamline their business processes. Carma Labs chose to eliminate the three separate pieces of software and to replace them with one solution that is fully integrated with Microsoft Dynamics GP. This solution eliminated the re-keying of orders saving over 878 hours of duplicate entry time.
